catholic_religion_desc:1 "Catholic faiths, either the Roman Catholic Churches and its Rites, or Independent Catholic Churches such as the Sevillian Church, all claim apostolic succession via Papacy from Saint Peter, who was promised the Keys of Heaven by Jesus Christ. Catholic Churches are always led by the Pope, who unquestionably commands the full authority of the whole Church, all of its priests, and all of its rulers."

orleaniste_desc:0 "A Catholic holy order at its roots, the Orleanist creed states that Saint Joan was given the sword Joyeuse by the angel Marianne in order to smite the Beast during [Concept('neow_the_event','Armageddon')|E]. Vengeful, the followers of Therion branded Joan a heretic, executing her and tarnishing her legacy for years to come. Though the Church has since canonised her as a Saint in Heaven, her loyal Order has not forgotten the Devil's corrupting influence on the Church, and their growing resentment and defiance culminated in the entire Order's excommunication. The now-independent Knights of Saint Joan continue to organise and rally within France's remaining bastions of faith, preparing to march upon Albion and send the resurrected worshippers of the Crowned Beast to Hell once and for all."

celtic_desc:0 "The Celtic Rite of the Roman Catholic Church was founded shortly after the restoration of the Holy See, given to the remaining Catholics of the British Isles due to their distance from the Pope, as well as to reinforce the Church in Britain ahead of the rise of the occultist British Empire. Though still in total communion with Rome, the Patriarch of Dublin oversees all temporal matters of the Church in Britain, while other more spiritual matters eventually find their way into the Pope's hands in Rome."

illuminated_adherent:0 "Illuminated Catholic"
illuminated_adherent_plural:0 "Illuminated Catholics"
illuminated_desc:0 "Believing the world to have fallen under the dominion of demons since the Event, initiates of the Illuminated Lodges seek to destroy the obscurant influence of Lucifer and his horde over mankind. Until this is done by removing the current servant of Satan in Rome and restoring a true Vicar of Christ, God is unable to intercede on Earth. Due to this dire situation, Illuminati take a very pragmatic view of demonology, turning a blind eye to more manipulative solutions if exorcism should fail. This is with the understanding that believers will use dark magic to smite all forms of hellish power, furthering the cause of Christendoms enlightenment. However, to outsiders, this has drawn accusations of demon worship, despite it being antithetical to the faiths goals."

osvicenist_adj:0 "Osvicenist"
osvicenist_adherent:0 "Osvicenist"
osvicenist_adherent_plural:0 "Osvicenists"
osvicenist_desc:0 "A faith originating in the wake of the event in the previously extremely atheistic nation of Czechia, Osvicenism is a fusion of both Christian and Buddhist beliefs which had grown significantly in popularity within the nation. Founded by a Czech Buddhist Monk who had been raised a Catholic, he found a way to unite his disparate beliefs together under one system which appealed to the people across Czechia and Goralia. Later this system of belief would spread east by several Monks to the Buddhists of Kalmykia, converting many and becoming a stronghold of the faith. It espouses that while it was to the Buddha that God revealed how one may ascend to heaven, it was only available to the most ascetic of monks, it was only through the sacrifice of Christ that this pathway was made open to all. It views sins such as Pride or Lust as faults which must be overcome by meditation on their meaning and the emotional state which they cause. Only by conquering these faults across multiple lifespans may a person purify themselves and therefore escape the cycle of Birth, Death, Purgatory and Rebirth which all but the most ascetic monks are trapped within. Those ascetics are close to fulfilling their escape to heaven where they will join God as saints."

Having been persecuted by their Catholic overlords for heresy, the Utraquists were driven underground as a faith. However, this persecution only emboldened them more, as many members began preaching secretly in the countryside towns of Central Europe. As a goal, the Utraquists seek to create their own domain, and are eager to spread their beliefs far and wide."
penitente:0 "The Penitent Churches"
penitente_adj:0 "Penitente"
penitente_adherent:0 "Penitent"
penitente_adherent_plural:0 "Penitents"
penitente_desc:0 "The Penitente are a group of Sevillianists who preach that humanity, and especially the Spanish people, are full of guilt and do not deserve salvation. They preach that the only hope to avoid eternal damnation is to accept one's guilt and do penance in order to be absolved by the Lord when he sees sincere repentance. Penances can be very varied, including self-flagellation, crucifixion, etc., but all of them usually coincide in that the penitent must suffer great pain during the penance so that his guilt can be absolved. All this is due to the fact that long before the event, when brothers were killing each other in a supposed holy war, a false prophet arose. This false prophet was none other than the antichrist who deceived the people of Spain that he had been sent by God Himself to restore the worship of the Lord and eradicate the wicked and degenerate from this land. The church in Spain instead of seeing through the lies of the antichrist, blinded by their hatred, wholeheartedly supported the antichrist, shepherding the people of Spain straight into the jaws of the beast. The antichrist demanded from the people their praise for being sent by god under threat of death for anyone who refused, the slaughter was such that he founded lakes and rivers throughout Spain with the blood of his victims. Fortunately the Lord did not abandon his people and sent his archangel Raphael to kill the antichrist, after which he punished the world with the event."

They hold that His Holiness the Preserved is still alive to this day, and will some day be restored in flesh to lead the true Catholic Church, untouched by the Event. Until then, he communicates with the high-ranking members of his clergy through divine apparitions, and they rule the Church in his place as the secretive [Concept('neow_cadaverist_synod','Cadaverist Synod')|E]."

fraticelli_adherent_plural:0 "Neo-Fraticelli"
fraticelli_desc:0 "The Fraticelli, or the 'Little Brethren', are a movement within Catholicism seeking to increase the devotion of the Church towards asceticism and poverty. Inspired by their medieval namesake, the Fraticelli are violently opposed to hoarding and displays of wealth by the Church, as well as excessive opulence among the populace. They believe that Mammon, the King of Greed, grew so powerful within the Old World that he usurped Lucifer as the ruler of Hell, fueled by the infinite greed of antediluvian plutocracies. As Mammon intentionally and brutally brought forth the fall of the Old World, the Fraticelli view greed as the gravest of sins."

sevillian_adherent_plural:0 "Sevillian Catholics"
sevillian_desc:0 "A traditionalist rejection of the degenerate city of Rome, the Sevillians are defined by their recognition of a new Pope in Seville. The church traces its history back to just before the [Concept('neow_the_event','Event')|E], when the man who would become the first Sevillian Pope was given a vision by the Archangel Raphael that he must get the Vicar of Christ to depart from that "new Sodom", or else face the wrath of God. When this warning was ignored, the world was punished. Long since then, the [Concept('neow_sevillian_church','Sevillian Papacy')|E] has come to develop a canon that rejects many of the mistakes made by the Roman Vicar, especially those of the Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican. Further, the Sevillians have upheld long standing practices since abandoned by the Roman Church, from the allowance of indulgences in serious cases, to the prohibition on clerical marriage and the ordination of women."

roman_catholic_desc:0 "The Roman Catholic Church survived through the [Concept('neow_the_event','Event')|E], like it did through so many other crises, great and small. It did not, however, come out unscathed. Though the state of the Church during the Event is murky at best, the Holy See was officially restored in the Year 2100, with the Keys of Heaven being given to Saint Adalbertus, the first legitimate successor to pre-Event Pope John Paul II. The Church has had many losses, losing large swathes of territory to pagans, heretics, and idolators, as well as suffering from the [Concept('neow_sevillian_church','Sevillian Schism')|E], where the faithful of Spain flocked to a rival Pope in Seville. Since then, the true Holy See has adapted to the post-Event world accordingly, allowing the marriage of priests and the appointment of female deacons to make up for the massive loss of life during the Event, as well as recognising a variety of local rites and the celebration of Vernacular Mass. Now, the Church may finally, for the first time in a long time, have the upper hand against its neighbours, and only time may tell if it will survive in this new changing world, as it has for countless millennia."

teutonic_desc:0 "Following the catastrophic collapse of the Catholic Church in Germany in the early days of the post-Event, much of its remaining Catholic population was either killed or driven into exile by hostile pagans. Recognising the perility of their situation, the Holy See approved the Teutonic Order taking over the Church in Germany as its own autonomous (sui iuris) rite, administered from their headquarters in Vienna. The Grand Master oversees most of its dioceses as a Patriarch would, while still in full communion with the Pope in Rome. Mass is generally performed in German, and many parishes, especially border ones, are directly administered by the Order itself."

Surrounded on all sides and mostly isolated from Rome, the Church in Iberia chooses to do nothing proactive about the growing threat in Seville. Instead, they hold that by staying peaceful and defensive, the Sevillians' pride will eventually become their doom."
