chaldean_desc:0 "The Chaldean Catholic Church is the heir of the ancient Church of the East. Before the [Concept('neow_the_event','Event')|E], Assyrian Christians were divided among many differing groups. When the old world fell into chaos, the schismatic Catholicos-Patriarch was far across the sea, while the surviving bishops and monasteries of Mesopotamia were cut off from their former hierarchies. In time, the local East-Syriac communities gathered around the Chaldean patriarchal line in Baghdad, and the old divisions faded into a single Church. Although the restored Church preserves the Catholic inheritance of the Chaldeans, centuries of isolation have made its Catholicos-Patriarch effectively independent of distant disputes over the Roman See, while still preserving the Christian inheritance of Assyria."
